The Dent du Géant remained unclimbed during the golden age of alpinism, repelling many parties who attempted it. Today the routes are well defined, here with more than 20 mountaineers conquering it concurrently. The mountain has two summits, 88 feet (27 m) apart and separated by a small col.

De-icing… Under certain and not usual circumstances the cable car at high altitude may be closed due technical circumstances. One of these is ice covering cables preventing these from being run through the driving wheel. It is hard manual work to making them usable again with kilometers of cable to be de-iced meter by meter…
